Vincent Audio Announces New SV-228 Hybrid Integrated Amplifier!

Vincent Audio makes some amazing products when it comes to audio components. We reviewed the SV-500 hybrid integrated amplifier in the past and it was absolutely incredible. It punched well above its weight both in power and sound quality. Knowing they have more powerful models available, I’ve been very curious how much of a step up it could be. To make upgrading even more compelling, Pangea Audio (the parent brand to Vincent Audio) announced the new SV-228 model, which is on a whole new level.

The power output increases dramatically, with 100W x 2 @ 8 ohms or 180W x 2 @ 4 ohms, and they now offer Bluetooth 5.0 as well. This makes the amp more flexible for mixed listening in addition to powering some pretty serious speakers. Vincent Audio is using a Burr-Brown PCM 5102 DAC in this model, and the hybrid name means they have tubes on the preamplification stage (1 x 6N4, 2x ECC82) with solid state on the output stage. To me this has provided a great balance of sound quality and imaging, with clean and reliable power output. I haven’t had the privilege to audition the SV-228 yet, but if it’s anything like the SV-500 I’ve had extensive use with, I expect a lot of favorable impressions. The full press release is below, but this is an amp I would certainly keep your eyes on!

Full Press Release:

Vincent Audio, a designer and manufacturer of elegant audiophile-grade stereo and multichannel components, announced today the imminent arrival of the SV-228, a hybrid integrated amplifier that is the latest in a series of PowerLine models.

Succeeding the popular SV-227MK in a series that is one of Vincent Audio’s most successful lines to date, the SV-228 (MSRP: $2,499.95) features noticeable upgrades both inside and out

“Beginning with the SV-226, the PowerLine models are among the most successful products introduced by the brand,” says Steve Niemi, Director of Global Sales, Pangea Audio, LLC. “With the SV-228, the team at Vincent Audio proves it is ready, willing, and able to further improve on an audiophile favorite.”

The SV-228 builds on the power of its predecessors with the addition of in-demand new features, including a Main input that makes it easy to use it as a power amplifier in conjunction with an A/V preamp/processor. Blu-ray discs and streamed movies will sound their best, thanks to the combined benefits of both tube and solid-state sections and overall powerful output. In addition, the SV-228 features a v.5.0 Bluetooth input for wireless streaming, maximizing the sonic attributes of audio sourced from portable devices.

Aesthetically, the SV-228 stands out with a VU meter embedded in the front panel, and colored lighting that is adjustable via a rear-panel control. The two-channel meter is controlled by a separate CPU (central processing unit), accurately displaying real-time power output.

Vincent Audio’s SV-228 integrated amplifier features the company’s acclaimed hybrid design, offering the rich, natural-sounding audio associated with vacuum tubes while providing the power and control of solid-state electronics. In addition to making analog sources sound their best, the SV-228 is up to date with a DAC that handles the latest high-resolution streaming formats, including WAV, FLAC, APE,LPCM and more.

Delivering 100 wpc at 8 ohms, 180 wpc @ 4 ohms, the SV-228 is powerful enough to drive two pairs of speakers without distorting. Two amplifier sections–pre-amplifier and power amplifier–are perfectly matched for maximum transparency. However, the listener can bypass the pre-amp/amp connection by removing external jumpers, allowing for an external Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for room correction.

The input selection includes three analog and two digital, with the latter connecting to a Burr-Brown PCM 5102 DAC that is specially designed to bring out the best in compact discs as well as WAV, FLAC,APE, LPCM, MP3, AAC, AC3, and WMA files. No matter the audio source, the SV-228 will handle it with ease, with full-range output that brings out the best in high-fidelity recordings.

  1. It looks very nice, and I am tempted but it should have a better DAC included. The extra power, bluetooth, and VU meters are very attractive though. I just dont need the extra power or the bluetooth for that matter I do wish my SV-500 had a better DAC with HDMI arc, along with VU meters.
